LG Optimus G Screen Repair Guide

Learn how to tear down a LG Optimus G E970 to perform repairs such as replacing a cracked or broken screen. This step-by-step guide demonstrates the safe and proper way to disassemble your Optimus G to install a new touch screen digitizer, LCD screen, or other internal components that may have stopped working. With the ability to do this repair yourself you can potentially save hundreds of dollars on repair fees or having to purchase a new phone altogether!

This tutorial guide when assist you when needing to install the following LG Optimus G parts:

Required Repair Tools:

First you will want to make sure your device is powered off.

Next you will need to remove your micro SD card & sim card

Then take your Torx T5 Screwdriver and remove the two (2) screws located at the bottom of the device.

With these screws removed you will then need to take your pry tool and pry off the back cover by releasing the clips holding it in place.

See figure below for screw locations and reference.

With the back cover removed you will now need to lift up the protective film covering the battery connection, then take your Small Phillips Screwdriver and remove the two screws to be able to release the battery from the housing.
Next you can now remove the eleven (11) Small Phillips Screws circled in the figure below. (Note: These screws may be different sizes.)
With all the screws removed you can now take your pry tool and remove the back housing by prying between the housing and mid-frame releasing the clips holding them together.
Now that the back housing is removed and the motherboard exposed you can start releasing all of the necessary connections.
In the figure below you will see ten (10) connections that will need to be released. You will also notice on the right side the volume button flex will need to be pryed and released from the housing.

Next step you will need to take your pry tool to gently remove the rear camera from the housing. (Note: It is held down with some adhesive.)
Then taking your pry tool to pry up and lift out the headphone jack flex assembly.
You will also want to remove the gray bushing seen in the bottom left image in the figure below.
Next you will want to take your pry tool to lift up the charging port flex assembly which is adhered to the housing.
You may want to feed the 2 antenna cables through their clips on the housing to make room to lift out the charging port assembly.

Next use your heat gun or blow dryer to apply heat to the front off the screen assembly to warm and release the adhesive holding it down to the inner bezel.
Use a medium heat setting for 30-45 second intervals roughly 3-4 inches away from the front of the screen. During the removal process you may need to apply more heat to stubborn areas.
Once you have loosened up the adhesive enough take your plastic pry tool and begin by inserting the chisel end in between the seam of the housing and the screen assembly.
Work your pry tool along all sides of the housing to release the adhesive entirely.
Finally you will need to slide the flex ribbon through the slot in the housing to completely remove it from the frame.
